2015 RIT United Way Campaign – RIT Beneficiary Amberlee Jones and Jordan Gates

♪ Music ♪>>We all know people work hard for, you know very hard for the money that they earn, and I think about what it means to give a portion of that money away. Even if it’s a small portion, it’s still meaningful. It’s still beneficial to people in ways that you might not even imagine. I mean, I don’t think either of us can really say where we would be with any level of certainty if we didn’t have the support that Margaret’s House and United Way has given us.>>You see the change happen in the community that you’re part of. I mean, at this point it’s happening at every single level. You’re seeing Arya who’s early childhood education. You’re seeing Jordan who’s a student. You’re seeing me who’s an alumni and someone who’s working here. I think that unexpected situations can happen to anyone, and I think United Way is a good support system, a great support system that helps the people in your community.>>And that coupled with the education that I’m receiving at RIT. I mean, I just don’t think that I can speak highly enough of what RIT provides both for you know children growing, and you know, people who have already grown. Being the beneficiary of you know, support like this, it’s made me consider that I wanted to pay it forward.>>I do believe in the idea of paying it forward. Someone has been, someone anonymous, a person that we don’t even know has been our support system to help us follow our dreams, to make sure our daughter has affordable, quality education, is well taken care of, well loved, Jordan’s able to be successful. Someone that we don’t know helped us out, so I think I’m a strong believer in the idea of paying it forward. If we didn’t receive the funding from United Way, I kind of had this thought I’d have to pick between my career or my family, and I don’t think that’s anything that any parent should really have to make a choice between because your family is going to win ultimately.>>I think that we’re a pretty good example of what is possible when you have that extra support. We’ve said we wouldn’t be here. We wouldn’t be at this great institution. Arya wouldn’t be going to a great day care, and Margaret’s House and United Way have stepped in and have proven to be that support that we needed. It’s amazing how much difference just a little bit of extra help can make. I would just say thank you.>>Thank you to donors. Thank you very much. ♪ Music ♪
