Hi! My name is Derek and I’m part of the K-12 User Education team here at Blackbaud. This LTI video is going to cover Learning Tools for Assignments. With Learning Tools for Assignments, not only can you add third party tools and resources to student workflows, you’ll also pull grades directly into your onCampus Grade Book. Keep in mind that when TurnItIn is used, Grade Book is required. In this video, we’ll focus on TurnItIn and SoftChalk, but you could also use other compatible providers as well through the Other Providers option. TurnItIn is a plagiarism detection and prevention tool. Its reports show teachers how much of a student’s document is an original, cited from other sources or completely unoriginal. If your school sets up TurnItIn as an LTI provider, teachers can enable it when they add assignments. They just select TurnItIn under File Submission. Note that only one LTI can be applied at a time and other options like SoftChalk will be removed. Before TurnItIn can be used, the teacher must first launch the tool from onCampus. For assignments that have not been launched previously, a TurnItIn setup message will be visible. When a teacher opens TurnItIn from the Assignment Detail page, a corresponding Course Section is created in TurnItIn, if one didn’t already exist. Once a student submits an assignment, through the TurnItIn integration, they’re automatically added to your course roster. Next, the Assignment is then created in TurnItIn. Lastly, the TurnItIn Inbox for teachers then appears within an iFrame on the Assignment Detail page. Teachers will see student submissions here including the originality score, when it was uploaded and the overall grade. Teachers can also select Settings to configure TurnItIn options such as whether to allow late submissions and whether or not to add GradeMark and PeerMark assignments. When students access Assignment Details, they can launch TurnItIn right from the same screen and submit assignments back to onCampus once complete. There’s no need to re-authenticate. SoftChalk is Content Authoring Software that enables educators to create content quickly and easily. If SoftChalk is set up as an LTI provider tool, the option appears from Learning Tools when a new assignment is created. Note that selecting this eliminates the TurnItIn submission option as well. Teachers need to first create an account on the SoftChalk website directly. This is where teachers first create their lessons which are then added and used in onCampus. Once the lesson is ready, the LTI Link is provided, which you will later add to an onCampus Assignment. When a teacher creates a new assignment and selects SoftChalk as the Learning Tool, the LTI Link can then be added here in order to link the created lesson to onCampus. Once the assignment is saved, students who select Launch from Assignment Detail will open the lesson created in SoftChalk right from onCampus. No need to go to a different place. Teachers, on the other hand, will first see the SoftChalk ScoreCenter with a detailed breakdown of grades, attempts, and other statistics. Selecting View Lesson will then open the created assignment. For more detailed information about onCampus LTI, make sure to check out our help center documentation and our other LTI videos. As always, thanks for watching!
