Blue Bucket Brigade kicks of fundraising with help from Walmart

FORT WAYNE TEAMED UP TODAY TO KICK OFF FUNDRAISING EFFORTS FOR THE BLUE BUCKET BRIGADE. POLICE, VOLUNTEERS, AND KIDS STOOD SIDE-BY-SIDE AT WALMARTS ACROSS THE CITY RAISING AWARENESS AND MONEY FOR THE PROGRAM. KIDS COULD ALSO GET THEIR PICTURE TAKEN WITH A POLICE OFFICER AND BECOME A “DEPUTY FOR THE DAY.” THE PROGRAM AIMS TO BUILD AND IMPROVE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN YOUTH AND POLICE. ORGANIZERS SAY EFFORTS LIKE THIS CAN BENEFIT BOTH THE COMMUNITY AND POLICE OFFICERS. ((“AND BY DOING THIS TYPE OF NON- TRADITIONAL POLICE WORK, IT HELPS OUR OFFICERS SO THEY CAN SEE THE GOOD GOING ON IN THE COMMUNITY, BECAUSE FOR A LOT OF OFFICERS WHERE THEY WORK AND HOW THEY WORK, THEY DON’T SEE A LOT OF GOOD IN THE COMMUNITY. THE SAME IS FOR THE COMMUNITY. SOMETIMES THEY JUST DON’T GET A GOOD IMPRESSION OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, AND WE WANT THEM TO KNOW THAT WE’RE OUT HERE WORKING WITH OUR YOUTH TO MAKE A BETTER FUTURE.”)) THE NEXT FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITY WILL BE JUNE 9.
