Cast your votes to support local cancer patients

I’m Kelli Warner. There is more to cancer
than diagnosis and treatment. Cancer can send a person’s finances into a tailspin.
The Oregon Cancer Foundation provides local assistance and resources to make
things easier, and this month you can help by voting for the best decorated
bra in Lane County. Each October, Dandelions Flowers and Gifts in Eugene
transforms. We get some customers in here who are really curious about what we’re
actually selling here. Owner Krystal Vincent and her staff are carrying on a
Dandelions tradition and displaying many of this year’s Bras For Cause entries, 84
eye-catching bras decorated by businesses and individuals in the
community as part of an effort to support local cancer patients through
Oregon Cancer Foundation. It’s crazy how many bras we get at this store and how
do we find space for them all, but the community’s just stepped up so much and
are supporting each other and it’s amazing to see it. This year’s Bras For
Cause goal is to raise 120 thousand dollars to support OCF’s financial
assistance program, support groups, classes, and its freezer meals program,
which provides slow cooker meals to patients to feed themselves and their
families when they don’t feel up to cooking. So number one complaint that we
hear from people about cancer treatment is that they’re exhausted. Their taste
buds are different, they’re not hungry. And so to have this available for them
to fix for their families would be invaluable to them. We’re coming into the cold
months of the year. Those utility bills go up. And so, you
know, even someone who you know last month was doing okay can find
themselves in a pinch, and we’re here to help them when they need it. And that’s
the gorgeous thing about Oregon Cancer Foundation. It’s not just for breast
cancer or lymphoma or leukemia. It helps anyone who is a cancer patient in Lane
County who really, really desperately needs that assistance. A colorful effort
that aims to make things a little easier for our friends, family, and neighbors. I
can just only imagine what that’s like trying to handle your finances, keep
everything straight while battling something like cancer, so it feels really
great to be a part of it. To see this year’s Bras For Cause
entries, stop by Dandelions Flowers and Gifts in Eugene. A select group of bras
are also on display at Valley River Center, but you can check them all out
online at brasforcause.org. Voting is open through October 31st. One dollar
equals one vote and you can vote as many times as you’d like.
Again, all funds raised support Lane County cancer patients through Oregon
Cancer Foundation. I’m Kelli Warner.
