The closest way I’ve worked with WIG in the
last 10 years or so has been as a result of the Prince of Wales suggesting to me and one
or two others that we should do more to get opportunities for young civil servants to
work in a strategically important role in a charity.
And that as the world went on, and as more and more of the lines blur between sectors,
clever civil servants will need to understand what is the role of civil society and how
can they influence and work better together. And that developed into a programme called
Charity Next, which WIG now run, and have made an immense success of it. And I think
it’s been one of the most important pieces of change-making in the relationship between
(Civil Service) Fast Streamers and society at large.
