Episode 30: Fundraising

Hello and welcome to Episode 30 of Squeaky
Wheel Productions’ Disability Series. Today’s topic is fundraising. What is fundraising, how does it work, and
why is it important? Pay it forward and let’s find out! According to the Cambridge Dictionary, fundraising
is the act of collecting or producing money for a particular purpose, especially a charity. However, the principles of fundraising can
also be used to acquire resources such as food and clothing, or to spread awareness
and gather support for a specific cause. Examples of fundraisers include auctions,
, concerts, galas, walk-a-thons, food or clothing drives, raffles, and crowdfunding. In recent years, online fundraising has also
gained popularity. Examples of online fundraising and crowdfunding
platforms include Causes, FundRazr, GoFundMe, JustGiving, and Patreon, just to name a few. Websites like these are often used to raise
for charity and other important causes. So, how does fundraising work? Fundraising can be divided into three main
steps: 1) pick a cause, 2) gather support, and 3) raise money. Of course, this is a very simplified explanation
of the fundraising process. Check out this week’s vlog to learn more about
the process of fundraising. So, why is fundraising important? As mentioned earlier in this video, fundraisers
help to raise money for important causes. They are also a great way to acquire more
resources and to spread awareness or gather support for a specific cause. Ultimately, fundraisers are an effective way
to help those in need, especially the less fortunate and people with disabilities. Well, that’s all for this week. Now I want to hear from you. What are some fundraisers you’ve participated
in? Please let me know in the comments. If you enjoyed this episode and want to see
