Tip 1 Make Things Easy on the Parents We all know parents have a lot of demands on their times, so be very specific about what you need them to do. If you want them to become involved in something or help with fundraising efforts give clear directives of what they can do to help. For example, If you are doing a shoe drive fundraiser with funds2orgs Have one parent commit to filling a certain number of bags for you Or maybe ask one parent to be in charge of bagging parties. Also, You can have one parent be in charge of managing the storage of the shoes. As long as you’re specific, It will make both of your lives a lot easier both of their lives. Tip #2 Never Assume parents that can’t attend Your meetings aren’t interested in the work that you do. Maybe start a volunteer signup form to help you utilize Pickup time to meet with parents, or you could do something to explore People with insufficient time maybe meet them directly so you can talk to them face-to-face. You can also explore opportunities that may allow them to be with you virtually like one line or with Skype with FaceTime Something that lets you do a little bit of FaceTime with them. Also when you’re looking to communicate with parents try different avenues Some parents will be open to reading the flyer whereas others might be more comfortable than email or direct message. Tip #3 Be Welcoming of All Parents You should always be welcoming of all parents because some don’t always feel like they’re involved in the community Especially if they are new. No one wants to be the newbie. Often parents who feel disconnected Simply don’t know how to get involved. If you need parents to be involved for group events Try inviting them for a couple hours a semester. That way you can get connected and it would be easier for future events.
