Hey, I’m Joe with Funds2Orgs. Now in our social media series we’re teaching you how you can use social media to promote your fundraiser online. So far we’ve discussed Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook Live. Today I’m going to teach you some of the pros and cons of using Twitter to promote your fundraiser online. Let’s get started. Well before I start this let me ask you a question. How do you find your information? For me, I use Twitter. It’s my favorite app. It’s my favorite social media platform and honestly I don’t think I’ve turned on the TV to catch the news or the scores from last night in a long time. I use Twitter. Twitter is great for information sharing. It’s great for sharing links and if you’re doing a shoe drive with Funds2Orgs it’s a perfect place to share your ourshoedrive.com link to spread the word about your fundraiser. So Twitter in a sense is great for information sharing. Now while Twitter is still very useful its declined over the last year or so, whereas apps like Snapchat and Instagram, they’ve seen increased user growth. So people still use Twitter but it’s not as popular as it once was. So it may not be as effective as using apps like Snapchat or Instagram or even Facebook. While Twitter is great for discovering information that actually helps with this next Pro. Now Twitter is great for engagement and creating a dialogue. So you can search keywords on Twitter, find people who are maybe struggling with fundraising or they are in your area and you want them to donate. Don’t spam them though. That, that’s bad. But it’s great for creating a dialogue and asking questions, answering questions and everything that goes with engagement on social media. Now Twitter has a problem with spam and bots going through and tweeting to you and liking tweets and engaging and following you. Now if you don’t know what spam or a bot is these are accounts that are set up so if you type a certain word they will automatically like or retweet or they will follow you based off of this. So these are accounts that are basically empty or dead or just serve the purpose of absolutely nothing. So when you’re using Twitter for your fundraiser and promoting it on there when you check the social stats on it the engagement make sure that they are actual profiles and you’re not just looking at the numbers thinking you have 13 likes when 10 of them are for nothing. Now with social media, actually Twitter was the first one to use this but hashtags. You see hashtags everywhere you go. But they’re the most effective on Twitter and the reason why is people actually search for them on Twitter. So you can either find one that’s popular and use it to promote your fundraiser or you can create your own if you’re having a fundraising event or you just want to have continuity when talking about your fundraiser. So for example hashtag #ourfundraiser. That would be one that you can have your supporters use when tweeting about your fundraiser. So hashtags very effective and they’re very useful on Twitter.
