How to Promote Your Nonprofit on Instagram


Instagram. Have you heard of Instagram? No? What’s Instagram? Everyone’s heard of Instagram. Yeah, even me. This week we’re discussing three tips that your nonprofit can use to help benefit your Instagram profiles. Yeah! So, some nonprofit groups are very hesitant about getting on Instagram, but we have a couple statistics that’ll show you why this social media platform is important. Number one, there’s 1 billion 1 billion 1 billion monthly active users on Instagram. Number two, this social networking tool is used by 71% of people under the age of 35. And, we all know what group that is. That’s the Millennials and Millennials are important because you need to replenish your donor base. Replenish it. And number three, 95% of the people that use Instagram also are active on YouTube YouTube. So, this week we’re focusing on three actionable and easy things that you can do to get your nonprofit successful on Instagram. Number one, the easiest thing that you can do to upgrade your Instagram presence and profile is to make sure that your Instagram profile is a business profile and that’s very easy to do. Some would even say it’s the most easiest thing you could do. When your nonprofit organization has a business profile, what this allows is to categorize yourself as a non-profit or a charitable organization. So, immediately when your followers land on your page, they know that you are a non-profit and second It allows you to put your address, your website, your phone number, contact all of that fun stuff. All that jazz. Right there and easy click through for your audience. I did jazz hands just for you in the back there with the hat. Number two, in 2018, 81% percent of businesses used video. Video’s become the go-to type of multimedia for people to use because it’s moving, it’s actionable, It’s better than just a still because you feel like you’re live and in there. And speaking of live, there’s now Instagram live that you can use as a nonprofit to take your viewers along with you on your journey as a non-profit. And also, there’s now IGTV, which if you record your video in a vertical motion or submit an editing or square, if your god at editing. You can also take your people on your journey in a video instead of live so you can upload your live content for them to watch forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever. If you don’t know what IGTV is, it’s basically instagrams version of YouTube. The only difference is they only do vertical videos and square. Yeah, it’s not hard to do. I’m the editing master, so I’ll talk about it later. Number three, Instagram stories. Do you know what Instagram stories are? they’re super easy. I love stories. They’re basically photos or videos that last only 24 hours. So, basically it’s snapchat but on Instagram, but there’s really cool GIFS or JIFS. GIF JIFS. Didn’t we look that up? Is it GIF? It’s GIF. Yeah because it’s graphic, which is a hard G not. Yeah. Yeah. It’s GIF. Just just get it out there a linguistic expert said it’s GIF. Not JIF. That’s what they said. It’s not a peanut butter get it, right. Back to the video guys. And now we’re back! One of the greatest things about stories is that it creates a sense of urgency because they have to watch it in that 24 hour time frame. Also, the stories pop up at the top of their profile so it’s easy access for people to see your story. In case your content gets buried by Instagram and all their algorithms, stories which are linked to the top of your profile, will help boost you. Boost!
