My company is called ‘Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium’ and we’re based in Shoreditch in East London. The short version of what we are is we are a cafe with a lot of cats who live here with us. So, we are here for people who can’t have a pet at home, or who just like to hang out with cats! Yeah, cat cafes are definitely popular, I think that they’re a thing that seems to be trending at the moment as well. So there’s loads more opening up all around the place but we’ve been fully booked for a year and a half. We have nine cats and they’re all adopted. We have taken them from shelters in some cases but most of them are actually directly adoptions. They want to find their cats a good home, and having the cats at lady dinahs also gives them a chance to come back and say hello whenever they want to. Usually we do private, person-to-person
adoption. Because we’re such a small business, we can be really agile and just do something if we want to. So, last year one of our friends nearby, Flash (who’s a cat, who used to pop in and visit us), was hit by a car and through our social media networks we were able to fund-raise to pay for his surgery and he’s got a new family now
who look after him and they’ve built him a special feeding station and it’s just amazing and it was nice to be able to like, kind of, mobilize people and get them involved in something I’m really proud of the fact that we can actually do more than just serve tea and coffee and more than just cats in a room. It’s like ‘Lady Dinahs’ has something else going on to it and I think it makes it really special. And I’m quite proud of that.
