I’m Sandra Pfau Englund, founder of Parent Booster USA and myRENOSI, registration for nonprofits simplified. And I’m really excited to be here today because I’m going to present to you a great fundraising idea where you don’t have to buy anything. Now, I’m the mom of three kids and I have bought more than my share of cookie dough, gift wrap, you name it. So this makes me just super excited to bring you this fundraising idea today. This is Tom Henderson with Funds2Orgs. Tell us a little bit about your group. Well Sandy, Funds2Orgs is the leading shoe drive fundraising company around. We work with groups all over the country helping them raise money by simply cleaning out people’s closets so the gently worn, used, and new shoes that they have and they don’t wear any longer. So, why shoes? Well, every year about 300 million pairs of shoes get thrown into America’s landfills. Those shoes, many of which are still quite wearable, can help people in developing nations like Haiti and Honduras and we do just that. We give them a “hand up” out of poverty, helping them start micro-businesses, giving them a commodity that they can sell for a profit for their families. So any kind of shoes like all those high heels that, you know, I can’t really wear anymore. Well, we do accept every style, every season, every gender, as long as it’s a pair of shoes and the shoes should be in wearable condition. Okay. So, nothing like “ratty”? No. If the shoes are beyond wear they’re not going to be a value door to our micro-business partners and help them. So, you know, take that into consideration. Well, that makes good sense. So, I’m collecting shoes, really how much can a school booster club make if they’re just collecting a few shoes for you? It really depends on their ability to engage their, you know, their peer supporters and community. Our average fundraiser’s about $1,500 but we regularly help people raise three to five thousand and more. Our largest fundraiser to date is over $40,000. The gentlemen that raised $40,000 called me one day and said “Hey Tom. I’ve got a gymnasium full shoes.” I said, “Okay, send me a picture. Let’s see what that looks like.” And then I called him back and said, “Well, hey you got a gymnasium full of shoes!” So, what’s the bottom line, I want to set up a shoe collection fundraiser. What’s it gonna cost me to get started? Absolutely nothing. Nothing? That’s the cool part, Funds2Orgs will provide all the tools and resources. We’ve even got a great team of professional fundraising coaches here on our staff that will work with you on a weekly basis. They’re gonna give you access to marketing tools. They’re gonna give you engagement strategies and best practices to have a great fundraiser. We’re even going to give you access to a micro-business curriculum that was educator developed. It’s common core approved, so if you have use for that you can go ahead and present that to the students at the school and let them know that what they’re doing matters beyond just fundraising. You could even have a family night where you could talk about it, you can have an educational component. Talk about micro-enterprise and get everybody excited about bringing in shoes. So, it sounds like just a fantastic program. Is there anything else we ought to know about it? Well, we’d love to help you with your next fundraiser! I’m in!
