United Way’s Young Leaders Society celebrates 30,000 book giveaway


SOCIETY CELEBRATES A MAJOR MILESTONE TODAY. IT GAVE OUT IT’S 30-THOUSANDTH BOOK! KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS FROM LOWMAN HILL ELEMENTARY JOINED SHAWNEE COUNTY SHERIFF HERMAN JONES FOR A READING AT THE TOPEKA AND SHAWNEE COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY THIS AFTERNOON. FOR 7 YEARS THE UNITED WAY HAS GIVEN BOOKS TO KINDERGARTEN AND PRE-K STUDENTS FROM LOWER INCOME SCHOOLS. THE PROGRAM SAYS THIS ENSURES CHILDREN WHO MAY BE AT A HIGHER RISK FOR SCHOOL STRUGGLES HAVE BOOKS AT HOME TO READ.###
